While on vacation in Israel in April, my husband and I happened upon a construction and archeological site along the Sea of Galilee called the Magdala Center. The Center, on the land of Mary Magdalene’s home town, is building a pilgrimage hotel, spiritual center, and women’s international center open to those of any faith in the spirit of peace. In 2009, construction efforts unearthed a 1st century synagogue with the oldest known carving of a menorah in stone. The Israeli Antiquities Authority called this “the most important archeological discovery ever related to the 2nd Temple.”

The Magdala Center touched my heart for many reasons and I felt called to help out in some way to ensure its completion. Fast forward four months later… I am writing a blog at http://marcellaofmagdala.com to raise awareness and garner micro-donations; having a dinner on September 15th to raise much needed construction and archeological excavation funding; and participating in an archeological dig at the Center with my friend Maryann in early October.
